ICS in the framework of UAT Coalition launches the

Know your Rights Campaign!

On Tuesday 18 November the first training scheduled within the Know Your Rights Campaign will take place in Ramallah, at the facilities of the PA Ministry of Education.

About 10 counsellors will be trained on children and youth’s rights upon detention, interrogation, imprisonment and trial.

The Know Your Rights Campaign is a pilot project which aims to begin the process of disseminating information and raising awareness amongst Palestinian children and youths, aged 12-20 in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, of their rights upon detention, interrogation, imprisonment and trial.

This project seeks to raise awareness of young people’s rights through the educating social counsellors, Palestinian Lawyers and local non-governmental organisations about rights specific to young people.   These participants can transfer the information onto the young people themselves. The project looks at three human rights instruments; to international law, Israeli Military Law and Palestinian Law.

The four training sessions for the counsellors will all take place in the second half of November in the cities of: Ramallah, Hebron, Jenin and East Jerusalem.

An additional training session will be held for lawyers and NGO’s in mid-December, which will include the participation of the Bar Human Rights Council of England and Wales.
